Thank you for posting this. There's a place here in Chicago that I always go to for my CIACP (Tank Noodles on Argyle Street in the Andersonville/Edgewater neighborhood). If I were on death row this would be my last meal. I'm so glad to have a recipe now so I can make it at my next dinner party. Cheers!

Hi, been following your blog for quite some time and was pleasantly surprised to see you spent time in Milwaukee. I have lived near/around the West Bank Cafe for 30 years. I too am a big fan of their clay pot dishes.

I heard that the WB has closed or is in the process of closing.

Keep up the good work with the blog and your family.

Try the Clay pot catfish at Lotus Leaf in Cary on the corner of Maynard and Harrison to the left of the Food Lion. Horrible location, great food.

Have you ever tried Pho 9n9 at the intersection of Miami Blvd. and TW Alexander (in shopping center)? They have this dish on their menu. If you are on the website, it is on the 3rd menu page. Mr. Cox seemed to have enjoyed it.

Varmint, the next time you're in D.C check out a restaurant in Falls Church called Huong Que (Four Sisters). They, too, serve this wonderful dish...and like you, I have never gotten it out of my head.

I was very worried that this pot couldn't handle the stove top, but I never turned up the heat very high. I don't know who made it (but I'll look). It's a wedding present from 17 years ago. I also made sure that I slowly warmed it up.

I need to get me some cheap clay pots!

That looks delicious. Is that casserole dish by Douglass Rankin and Will Ruggles? If so, you might want to be more careful with it because they recently closed Rock Creek Pottery down in Bakersville, NC after 28 yrs to start a new pottery in New Mexico. I make similar stoneware and have never used it on a stove top, just in the oven and not right out of the fridge. That is my two cents on pottery (ab)use.

That does look really good. I just wish our new house guest liked fish. We're on a strictly poultry diet.

It really is a pretty healthy meal. I ate 1/3 of this recipe (i.e., 8 ounces of catfish), and excluding the rice, it added up to about 475 calories -- this was a LOT of food. There's a fair amount of carbs here, simply because of the sugar content in the marinade and the caramel, but it's pretty low-fat. I'm thinking that you could easily add more veggies to the dish, too.
